Monk PVP
Hey guys, I've been reading here for quite a while (thanks for all the help).
I'm having problems with PVP though, i can literally get killed in 3 hits buy a Dervish.
I'm not sure how to setup a monk for PVP, and how to make myself much harder to kill.
Any help/setups really appreciated, thanks in advance.

3 main flaws spring straight to mind...
Superior runes are bad, as are Majors. Don't use them.
You need to learn how to kite, to escape melee.
You need to learn how to use Protection Prayers, which... don't suck like Healing Prayers, and stop you from dying.
... basically, that's all I can say given what you've said...
What build/attribute/equipment you using? What format? etc

There's no way anyone can help you in any meaningful way without more information. There are any number of reasons for why you die in three hits to a Dervish, up to and including not wearing any armor.
In addition to the general stuff Alex posted, get at least a defensive set (+60 health weapon swap with a shield), an emergency set (+30e/-2 regen), and learn to weapon swap.

Alex speaks the truth.
Preventing damage is always better than healing it up afterwards. If I get attacked by a physical damage dealer [wiki]Guardian[/wiki] or [wiki]Shield of Deflection[/wiki] usually stops them in their tracks. Some monks use [wiki]Frenzied Defense[/wiki] as self defense...I've always seen that as a selfish use of a skill slot or it makes you Ele-bait. When I play AB as monk (which currently is the syle of PvP I usually play) and I get attacked the old Guardian > Kite combo seems to work well, and kite towards an ally in the hope they will notice you getting hacked at.
Dervishes can be very powerful. Avatar of Lyssa + Heart of Fury can be deadly to Monks.

QFT. This is how I usually deal with melees as a monk in RA/TA:
Dervishes: hit Guardian, kite around, and hit RoF for the attacks that connect, becuase Dervishes always hit for high damage.
Sins: [skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill]
Wars: Guardian, kite.
I'd recommend going Assassin as a secondary, stick some points into Shadow Arts, and bring a couple defensive skills like:
[skill]Return[/skill]
or
[skill]Dark Escape[/skill]
or even
[skill]Smoke Powder Defense[/skill]
I personally can't use Return for crap because I always try to return to someone who is out of aggro range...so I bring Dark Escape and Smoke Powder Defense. You'd be surprised how many times I avert death by hitting SPD while knocked down during a sin combo.

Thanks for all the info guys , I'm going to have to work on my kiting. I do try to kite, basically by running away from stuff as it shoots/hits me, but I end up spending all the time running and no time casting because as soon as I try to cast the warrior or what ever catches up with me.
I need to get more HP on my gear (currently I have a single -75HP rune leaving me with 480HP).
I'm using monk armor that gives +60 armor per piece, all are runed to give me as much +energy as possible, my spec is protection/heal/divine. I have basically half protection and half heal... my actual build is impossible to say because i change it every time i go in there, having said that, I'm not a total newbie and have some elite/good skills.
I usually do PVE, I'm finding PVP is a totally different ball game.
(BTW: sorry it took me a day to reply to my own thread)

I've usually seen Monks use Frenzied Defense alongside Protective Spirit. You don't want an Ele spiking you for 300 damage in one spell. Arguably that would make Frenzied a little better, but personally I still chuckle a bit when I see it used.

Take off the +energy insignias and put in +health. Take off the superior rune and use a minor. Get a superior vigor rune. Get 1~2 vitae runes (depending on your build). You should have ~640 health sitting in your defensive set.
